Privacy
The short version: we keep as little as we possibly can, and you can delete all of it whenever you want.
What we keep
Only if you make a free account. Without one, everything stays on your own computer.
- Your username. The site made it up for you (like TurboComet482). That's why nobody can put a real name or anything mean on a leaderboard.
- Your password, scrambled. We store it in a scrambled form that can't be turned back into your password, not even by us. Your recovery code is scrambled the same way.
- Your game saves and scores. So your progress follows you from one computer to another, and your best scores show on the leaderboards. We keep your last 5 saves of each game, in case you ever want an older one back.
- When you signed up and when you last played. So we know which accounts are still being used.
One more thing, in Showreel only: Showreel asks your age once, so it knows which film ratings to open for you. It keeps that number inside its own game save, so it travels with your account like any other save. It's never shown to anyone and never used for anything else. You can change it in Showreel, or remove it by deleting your account.
And in Diego: Diego remembers what you tell him (like your name and your town) on this device only — it is never sent to our server.
Friends and profiles
- Your profile is only choices from our lists. Your avatar, banner, frame, title, "about" line and favourite games are all picked from lists the site made. There's nowhere to type words, so nothing anyone writes ever reaches anyone else. There is no chat.
- Your friends list is just usernames. A friend request does nothing until the other person accepts it. You can remove a friend or block someone any time, and a person you block is never told.
- Which game you're playing is shown only to your friends, so they can join you. It's kept in the server's memory for about 90 seconds and never written down. You can turn it off on My profile.
- Admins. A few people who run the site can approve games made in Create and reset a profile back to the default look. They're set up on the server itself; nobody can make themselves an admin.
What we never ask for
- Your email address
- Your real name
- How old you are (Showreel's one question, above, is the only exception)
- Where you live, or where you are
- Photos, or anything else about you
No ads, no trackers, nobody else
There are no ads on Hordz and Lordz and no tracking. Your account is never shared with or sold to anybody: no other companies, no analytics. Every page here, the games included, loads everything it needs (pictures, sounds, lettering) from this site and nowhere else.
To show how many people are playing, each open game tells our server "someone is playing this game right now", with a random number made up just for that tab. It isn't linked to you or your account, and it isn't written down anywhere.
Cleaning up
If nobody signs in to an account for 18 months, we delete it, with its saves and scores.
You're in charge
On My profile you can see everything your account holds, download all of it as one file, get a new recovery code, sign out everywhere, or delete your account. Deleting removes your name, your password, your saves and your scores, straight away and for good.
Some games (like No Look Typing and the Spotless family app) are their own separate apps with their own sign-in. This page is about the Hordz and Lordz account.
